Inspired by South American cave paintings, these pieces reference prehistoric murals where hunter-gatherers left handprints on cave walls. The exact purpose of these marks is unknown, although some scholars interpret them as an expression of the human desire to be remembered. Each lamp is hand-carved from tezontle in Mexico City.
Over time, water and sand transform the broken into something new. Inspired by this process, I began a material exploration with glycerin, a medium I had never worked with before, to reinterpret this natural erosion from the artificial and translate it into an everyday gesture.
For months, I collected broken glass from ancient objects, observing their shapes and textures. From them, I made a series of soaps that replicate their visual and formal qualities.
The friction of use, the repeated act of handwashing, triggers a slow transformation: the surface wears, rounds, and softens. Hands act like the sea. Each piece changes over time, as if the water leaves a final mark on it.
